My wife and I just returned from our 12 day cruise on the Uniworld River Queen. We took the Legendary Rhine and Moselle trip from Basel, Switzerland to Amsterdam. This was our second cruise with Uniworld and third river cruise overall. As with everything at Uniworld, it was the tops in service, accommodations and dining. The included tours were very good and covered all of the important points of interest, but we were given plenty of free time to explore on our own. These small French and German villages along the Rhine and Moselle are best when you are able ... to meander through the streets by yourself or with another couple that you met while on board.
The friendships we made on this cruise will be remembered all our lives. The fun and companionship we shared made the trip even more special.

It was our first experince with River Cruise and with Uniworld in April 2006. Right form day one we enjoyed our trip. The hospitality, food, sight seeing tours, you made our anniversary week unforgetable.

Last September, my wife Fran , and I took the Legendary Rhine and Moselle cruise from Basel, Switzerland to Amsterdam. This was our eleventh cruise. We have cruised on big ships, little ships, and medium sized ships, representing several cruise lines. We have enjoyed them all (except our first cruise to the Bahamas in a terrible storm); but this cruise with Uniworld, on the Rhine and Moselle, has to be the best, the most beautiful, and most delightful cruise we have taken. For our first time on the cruise, we picked the best cruise ever Rhine Christmas Holiday Markets Cruise from Basel, Switzerland to Cologne, Germany. We had been stranded in Amsterdam for 24 hours due to weather condition and KLM personnel incompetency, and missed the first night and 2nd day of the cruise, but once we stepped foot on the ship, Hildegard and the crew made use feel welcomed and relaxed. The staffs were outstandingly friendly, helpful and courteous. The food was fabulous. Kevin and I have just returned home after one of the most memorable holidays that we have experienced. From the moment we boarded River Queen, we were made to feel part of a special family. All of the ships compliment, without exception, had a cheery smile and hello no matter how many times during the day you saw them. We felt that this was genuine devotion to their caring for all passengers. Of special note Luca the Restaurant Manager and his dining room staff for their ensuring we were well fed and watered. My husband and I recently took one of your Rhine River Cruises from Cologne to Basel (Nov 29, 2008 to Dec 7th). Unfortunately I became very ill on the cruise. The staff members were so kind and considerate. However, I want to to laud one of your employees for outstanding service and care to me and my husband. Her name is Emma and she worked in food service as our waitress. She was so kind asking how I was every day and sending special food to my room with my husband. Some of my family lives in Germany ... and they were welcomed to the ship and allowed to visit me and have lunch in the dining room.

Again Emma went out of her way to be thoughtful and kind to all my family. You are blessed to have her in your employment. We were so impressed that we hope to do this cruise again as well as the one that goes to Romania, Emma's home country. Thank you again.

George and I would like to thank you for the opportunity to sail on the River Queen in August on the Rhine and Moselle Rivers between Basel and Amsterdam. Needless to say, we had a wonderful trip!

The crew and staff were all extremely professional and helpful in all aspects. Captain Schlenther was personable and available to the passengers when free. Hildegard Peiker, cruise manager, went out of her way to help passengers. As an example, when we thought of taking the local bus in Trier to see some of the Roman ruins that were not ... included in our excursion, Hildegard went out of her way to get us bus numbers so we would not get lost.

Sightseeing was very comprehensive. The guides were excellent in all the cities we visited. In Koblenz we did a side-trip on our own which might be worth-while incorporating in the regular sightseeing if at all possible. We went up to Festung Ehrenbreitstein which is a fortress built in the 19th century. At the fortress there was a short slide show presented in various languages including English on the history of the fort. From the fort there were magnificent views of the Rhine and Koblenz. If this is not possible then maybe information can be given to the passengers as to how to get there; we took a local bus up to the fortress, walked down from the fort and then took the ferry across the river back to the city center (or one can take the ferry both ways and a chair lift up and down or the bus down rather than walk).

The food was very good and the presentation was lovely especially at dinner. It was nice that breakfast was buffet, yet, one could always ask for different eggs or hot cerel. Lunches were good, but we felt that there were too many pork dishes served (even the meat sauce was made with pork). For those who do not eat pork, it would be nice to have basic alternatives such as tuna fish or egg salad or even turkey included on the cold-cut platter at lunch. Having the alternatives of chicken or steak at dinner was very good.
