If you are like me, you wish you were on a Uniworld ship exploring new destinations, enjoying the hospitality of our crew, eating locally sourced meals prepared by our highly trained chefs—and not having to do dishes. While our suitcases may be gathering dust, our dreams have not been on pause as we fantasize about our next Uniworld adventure.
Our team has been making the most of the downtime by creating key improvements to the Uniworld experience. As a nimble boutique river cruise line, we’ve been able to take advantage of our small size, dedicated team and the support of our TTC family to deliver the best way to get back into the world again once it is safe to do so!
If you’re already in the process of planning a trip, you may have heard about our new booking guidelines. Given the circumstances, we’ve designed them to give our guests maximum flexibility. Under the new system, everyone who is set to sail by June 30, 2021 will be able to change or suspend their cruise up to 30 days (European cruises) or 60 days (Exotics cruises) before departure. For any reason at all and without penalty, you can then rebook on any future cruise through 2022 or receive a Future Travel Certificate instead. What I love about these Future Travel Certificates is that, not only can they be used to travel with us, but they’re redeemable with any of our TTC sister brands as well! Learn more about our Book & Cruise with Confidence promise here.
As you’re planning, we know it can be confusing to keep track of which countries are open for travel and what their rules and regulations are for visitors, so we’re introducing a new tool on our website very soon to make this process a little easier. You’ll be able to simply input the countries you’re traveling to and from as well as your departure date to get guidance on travel restrictions, quarantine policies, border statuses, visa requirements and more.
We’re also making a host of changes onboard, big and small, to make sure our river cruises are as safe and worry-free as they always have been. The change I’m most excited about is our new partnership with CleanCoat A/S, a Danish company dedicated to sustainable disinfection and air purification. Their ACT CleanCoatTM self-disinfection system will be onboard all of our European ships (a first in the river cruise industry!). We spray a light-activated, antimicrobial coating (ACT CleanCoatTM) on all ship surfaces to render them self-disinfecting.
What makes ACT CleanCoatTM the best choice for our ships?
- All surfaces onboard will be safe and clean around the clock, since the ship is constantly disinfecting itself. Conventional cleaning products, on the other hand, protect surfaces for only a short period after application.
- It allows our crew to switch to new daily cleaning products that work with the antimicrobial coating—they are saltwater based and therefore non-toxic, odorless, and far more sustainable than conventional cleaning products.
- It not only protects our guests from COVID-19, but bacteria, all influenza viruses and even pollutants in the air as well.
Watch this video about ACT CleanCoatTM from our sister brand Red Carnation Hotels who is also implementing this innovative technology across all their boutique hotel properties.
Wishing you all health and happiness as we await the days we can travel together again.
