Frankfurt Germany Classic Christmas Market

Day 1: Frankfurt (embark)

Arrive at Frankfurt International Airport, where you will be transferred to the ship.

Day 2: Frankfurt

FEATURED EXCURSION: Christmas with dinosaurs
Step way back in time on a prehistoric journey at one of Germany’s largest natural history museums. Fascinating exhibits include dinosaur bones, a 50- million-year-old dwarf horse, a “dinosaur mummy,” an amazing bird collection and more. You’ll also want to wander through Frankfurt’s Christmas Market, featuring a vintage carousel and a huge, gorgeously illuminated Christmas tree.

Day 3: Cruising the Main River, Wertheim

FEATURED EXCURSION: Medieval insights & pretzel making
On your discovery tour of Wertheim, find out why blue-colored pigments were once incredibly expensive, how knights were buried and why the houses were so tiny in the Middle Ages. Observe a glassblower and hone your pretzel-twisting talents at a hands-on workshop.

Day 4: Würzburg

FEATURED EXCURSIONS: Würzburg Residence & Franconian village day
Würzburg’s spellbinding appeal becomes even more magical during the holidays. Visit the 300-room UNESCO-designated Würzburg Residence—which boasts the world’s largest ceiling fresco, painted by Tiepolo—then stroll through the Christmas Market with ornaments galore. Set forth through Franconia’s rolling hills to the picture-perfect village of Aschfeld, which offers a truly special opportunity to interact with small-town Franconians and chat with them about their daily lives. Locals will share traditional homemade Christmas goodies such as cookies, stollen and gingerbread.

Day 5: Kitzingen (Rothenburg)

FEATURED EXCURSIONS: Medieval Crime and Justice Museum & Night Watchman treasure hunt
Step into a fairytale version of the Middle Ages when you arrive in Rothenburg. This magical town sparkles even more during the holidays with one of Germany’s most celebrated Christmas markets and the original Käthe Wohlfahrt Christmas Store. A huge Christmas tree revolves in the store’s centre, and some 35,000 Christmas-themed items line the shelves. You’ll even get to go to the Medieval Crime and Justice Museum and then join the Night Watchman as he recounts the tales of the Middle Ages and takes you on a treasure hunt.

Day 6: Bamberg

FEATURED EXCURSION: Bamberg city hunt
The entire heart of historic Bamberg is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and you’ll explore it with the help of an iPad. Use its GPS-enabled map, compass, camera and motion sensors to solve Christmas-themed challenges—a fun way to get acquainted with this picturesque locale, its famous nativity scenes and festive Christmas Market.

Day 7: Nuremberg

FEATURED EXCURSION: Nuremberg city tour with Christmas Market

During the Middle Ages, Nuremberg was the preferred residence of emperors. On your guided excursion, visit Kaiserburg, the castle that rises high above the city and that housed every emperor of the Holy Roman Empire. Continue along cobblestone streets to one of the most famous examples of 14th-century German ironwork, the Beautiful Fountain in Market Square. Finish the day shopping for unique gifts at the festive Christkindlesmarkt, the largest and oldest Christmas Market in Germany. The best way to experience this market’s 200 wooden stalls is with a warm cup of sweet-and-spicy gluhwein in hand to keep you nice and toasty. In this fine medieval setting, you can also enjoy authentic Nuremberg gingerbread and bratwurst. Shuttle buses will run between the market and the ship in the afternoon. In the evening, enjoy a Captain’s Farewell Reception and Gala Dinner.

Day 8: Nuremberg (disembark)

Disembark the ship and transfer to Nuremberg Airport for your flight home, or extend your stay in Prague.
