Taking Farm-to-Table to the Next Level

When you sail aboard one of our two luxurious ships in Egypt—the S.S. Sphinx or the River Tosca—you'll dine on delicious Egyptian fare for three included meals a day. The cuisine is a classic Arabic array of grilled meats and vegetables, hummus, and other regional favorites, all prepared with an Egyptian twist. Subtle differences in spices and local ingredients give these recognizable dishes a distinctive flare that will bring a unique delight to each meal. Then, of course, there are the Egyptian staples to discover during your cruise, such as the flavorful koshari noodle dish or ful medames, a fava bean stew.

There’s no better way to sample the fantastic array of foods that make up Egyptian cuisine than aboard the S.S. Sphinx or the River Tosca, where the ingredients that make up each dish are locally sourced, adapted to grow in Egyptian farms and optimized to the environment.

But how local is “locally sourced,” really? In the case of the S.S. Sphinx or the River Tosca, it’s as locally sourced as it gets. The ships have their own farm in Luxor—one of the ports on our cruise. This 1200-acre farm stands as a testament to sustainable agriculture, employing an efficient irrigation system to ensure optimal growth for its products—tomatoes, onions, eggplants, dates, and so much more. All of the produce is certified organic, too.

We’re also proud of the farm’s support for the local community. Run by a dedicated team of around 100 farmers and engineers, nearly everyone who works on the farm is from Luxor and the surrounding villages, providing meaningful employment to both men and women in the area.

So as you dine on authentic dishes prepared masterfully by Egyptian chefs aboard the S.S. Sphinx or the River Tosca, look outside the window to admire the Nile scenery passing by, admire the flavor of ingredients grown lovingly in Egyptian soil by knowledgeable local farmers, and feel completely immersed in your destination.
