SERVICEThe Jewels of Spain, Portugal & Douro river was like three separate tours with little continuity. Madrid section was well done with side tours and planned activities. The actual river cruise was excellent with on board service well done. The crew was almost all from Portugal. This presented an excellent cooperative atmosphere for all phases of the river cruise. The excursions during the cruise were very good. The food on board was excellent but there were several nights that the only options were between two main entrees but both were good. The reason I rated only four stars was the short portion of the trip while going to and in Lisbon. This portion was too much on your own with little direct guidance. A "welcome to Lisbon" hour with a presentation would have given this portion of the trip a better rating. When we arrived at the Lisbon hotel there was little to do but wait for 1 to 2 hours for suitcase delivery - rather inefficient while the Uniworld lead at the hotel was answering questions but not very proactive. Lisbon departure was a very positive activity, especially for those of us that had very early flights (like 5:40 am). The Uniworld hotel rep was up before 3 am to make sure all the luggage and airport transportation was well taken care of. Then we were pleasantly surprised at 3:30am to be met at the airport by a Uniworld rep who helped us thru check in to security. She was available to answer questions and to assist with any problems which there weren't any.

SERVICEThe entire staff went way out of their way to meet our needs before we knew them. My husband was ill one day and Abdul sent someone to clean our bathroom. Tayeb took food up to him he felt would be easy to digest and help.
PRODUCTEach venue was unique. Mohammed, the Egyptologist, was outstanding. Early mornings were difficult sometimes but getting to the venue while still somewhat cool and w/o a lot of crowds was a plus.
