Onshore partners

Mother Nature has provided us with a beautiful playground, and supporting the places we visit and those who call our destinations home is essential to ensuring the future of travel is equally bright. Almost a decade ago, we introduced a clean water programme to preserve our rivers and waterways, which many in the industry have since followed. With our TreadRight Foundation partnership, we are currently working to help save wildlife and create economic opportunities for women as part of the Aid for Artisans project. Travel has provided us the chance to give back and lift up others, and we strive to do so whenever possible.

At Uniworld, we believe sustainability is the key to a better world. In the course of traveling the great rivers of the world and meeting people from all over the globe, it’s nearly impossible not to stand in awe of the beauty and power of the natural environment, and the cultures that call it home. This love for the world around us drives our commitment to implementing sustainable business and travel practices, while supporting the nature and people around us ensures that the very places we live in and travel to will remain vibrant for future generations. Our company-wide efforts to make a positive difference in the world are based upon the three pillars of environmental, social and economic responsibility:

Environmental Responsibility

The TreadRight Foundation, with support from Uniworld, has partnered with Just a Drop, an international water development charity, to bring clean and safe water to three villages in the Kralanh District of Cambodia.

After decades of civil war, North-Western Cambodia still belongs to the least developed areas of the country. The population consists mainly of returned refugees and migrants from other regions of the country, often trying to secure their livelihoods under the simplest conditions with minimal resources, and many live below the national poverty line. Sanitation, access to clean water, and health and hygiene issues remain as major development challenges. Funding from the TreadRight Foundation will allow Just a Drop to deliver high impact interventions in water supply, sanitation and hygiene with strong involvement of community leadership.

The project aims to transform the lives of 1,806 people who live in the villages of Damrey Slap, Knar Chor, and Rolom Sway by improving general health as water-related illness decreases; improving quality of life through sanitation and hygiene; making it so that children are better able to secure an education, as they are not ill, nor needing to collect water; making it so that women are better able to earn income, as they have no need to fetch water, thereby improving gender and social inequality; making more money available to communities as they will spend less on medicine; and creating a situation in which more people are likely to stay in the villages, as economic conditions improve.

Economic Responsibility

From organic wineries to small, family-run enterprises, Uniworld is committed to supporting environmentally conscious business throughout the destinations to which we travel. By introducing our guests to these local and sustainable ventures, we are able to provide truly unique experiences to travellers while bringing economic opportunity to the region.

Just A Drop

As part of our passion for sustainable tourism, we focus on making a positive impact through environmental, social and economic responsibility. We partner with Just a Drop to help provide clean drinking water to those who would otherwise be without, donate many items and materials that are no longer in use on our ships, develop programs to preserve local culture, and aim to support local businesses in the countries we visit.

TreadRight Foundation

Founded in 2008 by Uniworld’s parent company, The Travel Corporation, the TreadRight Foundation encourages sustainable tourism and has completed more than 40 projects that have benefited the environment as well as local culture and heritage. In 2015, TreadRight named their first ambassador, leading environmentalist and explorer Céline Cousteau. Céline has traveled the world while working to preserve marine life as well as indigenous tribes in the Amazon.
