The insurance must cover medical costs and a medically imposed quarantine if the insured, or someone the insured has come into contact with, tests positive for COVID-19.

Minimum coverage requirements (per person):
Trip Interruption:   Cost of the trip (excluding air).
Trip Delay:   $150/day, $750 total.
Emergency Evacuation:   $100,000.
Medical Expense:   $25,000.

If you do not currently have travel insurance, please contact Uniworld or your travel advisor as soon as possible to discuss your options. Should you choose to travel on Uniworld without the required travel insurance, you will need to declare your option on the Passenger Information Form. Documents will not be released until the insurance declaration section of the Passenger Information Form or 'My Uniworld' has been completed.

Travel Protection Frequently Asked Questions

Current concerns with COVID-19

What type of trip cancellation coverage do I have?

If you need to cancel for any reason and purchased the Travel Protection Plan, you will receive reimbursement in the form of a Future Travel Certificate from your Travel Provider equal to 100% of the cancellation charges. If you purchased the Travel Protection Plan Plus and need to cancel for any reason at all, you may be eligible for cash reimbursement from Arch Insurance Company in the amount of 60% of your total trip cost** as well as a 20% Future Travel Certificate provided by your Travel Provider.

If you have the Travel Protection Plan or Travel Protection Plan Plus and need to cancel your trip due to a covered reason, you may be eligible for cash reimbursement up to 100% of your total trip cost. A full list of covered reasons for trip cancellation coverage, along with general exclusions, is found in your state-specific plan documentation.

Am I covered if I contract COVID-19?

You may be covered if you, a Traveling Companion or a Family Member contract COVID-19. If you contract COVID-19 after purchasing Travel Protection and are diagnosed prior to departure, the trip cancellation benefit may provide coverage if you need to cancel your trip. You will need to provide proof of sickness from your doctor and a statement that you are medically unable to travel.

If you contract COVID-19 once you’ve already started your trip, the trip interruption benefit may provide coverage if you need to interrupt your trip because you or a Traveling Companion become sick. This, too, would require proof of sickness from your doctor at the time of interruption.

If you become sick with COVID-19 while traveling, your medical expenses may be reimbursed as well up to the benefit limits indicated in your plan.

What happens if COVID-19 causes me to be quarantined*?

If you are Quarantined* prior to your trip, the trip cancellation benefit may reimburse you for unused pre-paid, non-refundable trip costs. If you are Quarantined* during your trip, the trip interruption benefit may reimburse you for missed, unused pre-paid non-refundable trip costs and additional transportation costs to return home or catch up to your trip.

If COVID-19 causes you to be Quarantined,* delaying your trip for 12 hours or more, you may be eligible for trip delay benefits which may reimburse additional expenses for transportation, meals and accommodations, as well as missed unused pre-paid, non-refundable travel arrangements (up to the limits indicated in the plan).

In each case, you would need to provide proof from a doctor or government authority verifying your need to quarantine, as well as receipts for any expenses incurred.

What happens if I am afraid to travel due to the coronavirus?

Fear of potentially contracting COVID-19 or fear of being Quarantined is not a covered reason to cancel your trip. However, if you have the Travel Protection Plan, you may be eligible for reimbursement in the form of a Future Travel Certificate issued by your Travel Provider for 100% of the cancellation charges. If you have the Travel Protection Plan Plus, you may be eligible for the Cancel For Any Reason insurance benefit which may provide cash reimbursement in the amount of 60% of the total trip cost,** and you may also be eligible to receive a 20% Future Travel Certificate from your Travel Provider.

The area I am traveling to in the near future has been affected by COVID-19. Will I be able to cancel my trip and be reimbursed?

If you have the Travel Protection Plan Plus, you may be eligible for the Cancel For Any Reason feature which may provide cash reimbursement in the amount of 60% of the total trip cost,** and you may also be eligible to receive a 20% future travel certificate from your Travel Provider.

The U.S. State Department has advised against non-essential travel. Am I covered due to the U.S. State Department warning?

If you have the Travel Protection Plan Plus, you may be eligible for the Cancel For Any Reason feature which may provide cash reimbursement in the amount of 60% of the total trip cost,** and you may also be eligible to receive a 20% Future Travel Certificate from your Travel Provider.

Does travel protection cover trip cancellation or interruption because my intended destination is subject of a CDC Travel Warning?

What happens if the airline cancels my flight due to COVID-19?

If the airline carrier has made the decision to cancel your flight in advance of your departure date and you need to cancel your trip, there may be reimbursement available to you.

If you have the Travel Protection Plan, you may be eligible for reimbursement in the form of a Future Travel Certificate issued by your Travel Provider for 100% of the cancellation charges. If you have the Travel Protection Plan Plus, you may be eligible for the Cancel For Any Reason benefit which may provide cash reimbursement in the amount of 60% of the total trip cost,** and you may also be eligible to receive a 20% Future Travel Certificate from your Travel Provider.

What happens if I am diagnosed with COVID-19 while on my trip and require an emergency evacuation?

You may be covered if you are diagnosed with COVID-19 while on your trip and it is determined that emergency medical transportation to a higher level of care is necessary as a result. All of the Travel Protection plans provide a maximum benefit limit of $100,000 for emergency medical evacuation. These arrangements must be coordinated and approved by the Assistance Service Provider—CareFree Travel Assistance™.

Am I covered if I have recently been in contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19?

Contact with someone who is positive is not a covered reason for trip cancellation or trip interruption benefits UNLESS, you were placed under Quarantine* as a result of this direct contact/exposure. If you were to become sick and are diagnosed with COVID-19 by a Physician and are deemed medically unable to travel, you may be covered with proper documentation.

If you have the Travel Protection Plan Plus, you may be eligible for the Cancel For Any Reason benefit which may provide cash reimbursement in the amount of 60% of the total trip cost,** and you may also be eligible to receive a 20% Future Travel Certificate from your Travel Provider.

Can I cancel my trip if my state mandates a self-quarantine period upon return from travel and I cannot afford to miss work?

If you have the Travel Protection Plan Plus, you may be eligible for the Cancel For Any Reason benefit which may provide cash reimbursement in the amount of 60% of the total trip cost,** and you may also be eligible to receive a 20% Future Travel Certificate from your Travel Provider.

Your sickness or reason for cancellation must occur after your Travel Protection Plan purchase (Effective) date.
