Day 2: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (BB, L)
FEATURED EXCURSION: Highlights of Rio Tour
Set out with a local guide for a full-day tour of Rio de Janeiro. We’ll start with a quick drive to the train station for a cogwheel train ride through the Tijuca Forest up the Corcovado Mountain, where the statue of Christ the Redeemer rises above the city. After which, we’ll drive to Rio’s downtown area for a panoramic tour of the city’s finest architectural landmarks, such as the Candelaria Church and the Carioca Aqueduct. Next, enjoy traditional Brazilian barbecue—known as churrasco—for lunch at a fantastic restaurant with an enchanting view of Sugar Loaf Mountain and Guanabara Bay. Cap off the tour with a ride up to Sugarloaf Mountain in a glass cable car.
You’ll have the evening to spend at your leisure.
Day 3: Rio de Janeiro, fly to Iguazu Falls, Brazil (BB)
FEATURED EXCURSION: Iguazu National Park Hike
This morning, transfer to the Rio de Janeiro airport for your flight to Iguazu Falls. Upon arrival, you’ll take a guided walk along the paths to appreciate the lush vegetation, butterflies, and cascades offered by the Iguazu National Park. Enjoy panoramic views of the Devil’s Throat, the Two Sisters and Bozzetti waterfalls, the Superior Circuit, and San Martin Island, where the movie “The Mission” was filmed. After, check in to the charming Hotel das Cataratas, A Belmond Hotel. Situated on the Brazilian side of Iguazu, this pastel-pink hotel boasts the best views over the falls.
Day 4: Iguazu Falls, Argentina (BB, L)
FEATURED EXCURSION: The Argentinian Side of Iguazu Falls
After breakfast, depart for a full-day tour of the Argentinian side of the falls. Leave the hotel and drive to Iguazu National Park in Argentina. From the visitor's center, take the train to go to the Upper Circuit to appreciate amazing views of the falls. Arrive at the Devil's Throat, the peak's most impressive and immense waterfalls. Measuring 492 ft long and 262 ft high, its horseshoe shape creates a stunning waterfall you will remember forever. You’ll see the falls from a different angle as we embark on the lower circuit walk, a circular trail measuring about three quarters of a mile. And in another highlight to the day, we’ll board the Ecological Train of the Jungle to reach the Garganta del Diablo circuit, a walk that meanders across a series of islands connected by footbridges, leading to a balcony in front of the Garganta del Diablo waterfall. In the midst of our explorations, we'll break for lunch at a local restaurant.
Please note: this is a highly active tour involving long-distance walking and many stairs.
